José Manuel Navia
Photographe espagnol, membre de l’agence VU’ depuis 1992, vit et travaille principalement à Madrid (Espagne).
Diplômé de l’université autonome de Madrid en philosophie, c’est vers la photographie qu’il pratique depuis ses 17 ans, que José Manuel Navia dirige son activité professionnelle dès 1987. S’il collabore d’abord avec la presse, il revendique – et impose – très tôt une approche singulière de la couleur; couleur à partir de laquelle il compose ses images, dans une subtilité rare de teintes qui sait associer les noirs profonds à des camaïeux délicats tout autant qu’à des couleurs tranchées.

José Manuel Navia captures his subjects with a rare and subtle range of colours combining deep blacks with delicate monochromes or strong and striking colours.
While he has had a long relationship with the press, he has always been committed to his approach to colour. Especially since his great love of literature (Lusitanian among others) feeds his photographic creations and transforms his journey into literary ones. He often travels with well known authors and when this is not possible, he plans his voyage in the steps of famous writers ranging from Roa Bastos to Sallinger and García Márquez to Pessõa.
